Facebook & Social Network Sites

If you have an account on Facebook or any other social networking site you run the risk of your abuser finding you on the site and monitoring your posts. It is simply not true that an account can be made totally private. There are several ways you can be located and have what you share tracked.

It can be comforting to have your Facebook friends post words of encouragement and support but anything you or they say can easily become a permanent record. If you are considering leaving your abusive relationship of have already started to put together your Safety Plan do not discuss it on this type of site.

In the event you already have used your account in this regard you should cancel the account immediately and create a new account. If you have included your child/children in your plans be sure to have a discussion with them about this subject.
