Volunteer Job Descriptions
Administrative SupportThe administrative support volunteer answers the telephone and front door and must be prepared to answer calls made to the help line and refer to the appropriate person, and be flexible enough to assist the staff in another capacity if necessary.
Children's ProgramChildren's Program Volunteers provide support to children in MHWSS programs and services. Volunteers can choose to volunteer on a regular scheduled basis or on a "call as needed" basis.
The Children's Program Volunteer may be asked to provide childcare in shelter for women who need to attend appointments, supervise activities i.e.) crafts, reading, playing, etc., provide childcare during support group sessions or assist in our Daycare Program.
DonationsDonations volunteers assist with sorting, picking up donations from retailers, and putting items in the donation rooms.
Household SupportVolunteers assist with maintaining health standards within the shelter. Tasks may include general cleaning duties, checking expiry dates on food items, washing toys in playroom, tidying linen room, etc.
Kitchen Support/BakingThe Kitchen Support Volunteer prepares meals as outlined by the Household Support Worker. Volunteers have the ability to suggest the meals they prepare (with advanced notice to ensure ingredients are available). Daily shifts include lunch prep from 10am - 12:30pm or supper prep from 3pm - 5:30pm. Volunteers may also prepare baked goods as needed or to be frozen. Baking can be done in shelter or at the volunteer's home.
Special EventsVolunteers provide their time and skills in assisting with coordinating and staffing fundraising events organized within the community on behalf of Medicine Hat Women's Shelter Society such as casinos, information displays, and annual fundraising events.
