Build a Legacy
By investing in the Shelter Legacy Program you are building an important legacy that will ensure that programs and services are available for families fleeing family violence in our community – now and in years to come.
When you make a gift to the Legacy Program, the capital remains intact, and only income earned is used. This perpetuates your gifts for the benefit of generations to come and allows the Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society to make long-range plans with the security and stability to expand our programs and services to more people in need.
For more information about the Shelter Legacy Program, wills and bequests, sample clauses, gifts of life insurance, or other future provisions, please contact Natasha Carvalho, Executive Director at (403) 527-8223 or by email at natashac@mhwss.ca
Donations to the Shelter Legacy Program are held in an endowment fund with the Community Foundation of Southeastern Alberta.
Life Insurance
A relatively small commitment can translate into a significant endowment gift. Transfer ownership or complete a change of beneficiary form on an existing policy to leave a percentage to the Shelter Legacy Program, or purchase a new policy and make the Legacy Program the owner and irrevocable beneficiary.
Charitable Remainder Trusts
You may choose to establish a charitable remainder trust if you have an asset you would like to eventually donate to charity, but wish to retain control of the asset (ie. stocks, securities, mutual funds, real estate, etc). This type of gift is irrevocable and provides immediate tax benefits for the donor.
Direct Gifts
A gift of cash or other assets such as appreciated securities (any amount) to the Legacy Program will help build the fund immediately. All cash gifts will be recognized with a tax receipt.
Your Will
A gift of personal property, real estate or a specific sum of money left to the Shelter Legacy Program in your Will ensures that your legacy will live on.
Retirement Funds
Complete a change of beneficiary form for an RRSP or RRIF to have all – or a portion of the funds – donated to the Legacy Program.
