November 1, 2024November is Family Violence Prevention Month in Alberta! Join us at various community events and activities to help raise awareness and work to end family violence in our community.

- 10th Annual Memorial Walk.
Friday, November 1st @ 2PM.
Join us at Medicine Hat City Hall for our annual walk to honour those impacted by Family Violence. We will be putting up purple ribbons around the downtown core. - Story time & Activities at the Redcliff Public Library – Empathy Building.
Thursday November 7th, 1:30-3:PM.
Join us for a story time and activities centred on building empathy and understanding emotions. Suitable for elementary-aged students. - Story time & Activities at the Redcliff Public Library – Anger & Big Feelings.
Friday November 8th, 1:30-3:PM.
Join us for a story time and activities centred on how children can handle angry and “big feelings” in healthy ways. Suitable for elementary-aged students. - Medicine Hat Tigers – ATB Chuck-a-Puck Event

November 13th, 1-2:30PM, Chamber of Commerce Boardroom
This free training for Chamber Members will provides an overview of what domestic violence is, what employee responsibilities are within the Occupational Health & Safety Act, how everyone can work to build a safe work environment, and what local resources and supports are available. Thank you to the Southeast Alberta Chamber of Commerce for partnering with MHWSS to make this event possible. Register Online Today! - Medicine Hat Tigers – Community Corner & Puck Drop.

Join us at the Tigers Game where we will be dropping the puck to mark Family Violence Prevention Month. Drop by our booth at the Community Corner. Sun Valley Honda will also be on site collecting donations for our Christmas Hamper program! - Celebrating International Men’s Day
November 19th, 11AM-1PM at Medicine Hat College.
Join us outside the Students’ Association of MHC, as we partner with Sanare Centre. We will have SWAG bags, trivia/conversation cards, and informational displays. This year’s theme is “Men’s Health Champions” – encouraging men to work to build healthy communities, look out for each other, and promote health and wellness – including mental health. - Senior Safety Series at The Veiner Centre.

Join us at the Veiner Centre to learn more about elder abuse, family violence, local resources and supports, and how we can all be a part of creating a safer community. Featuring guest speakers from: MHWSS, Safe Families Intervention Team (Medicine Hat Police Service), Victims Assistance Unit (Medicine Hat Police Service), Sanare Centre. Door prizes & complimentary beverages and snacks.Free for members and non-members to attend. November 22nd – DYL Fashions (622 3rd St SE)
Join us downtown for Medicine Hat’s annual Midnight Madness! We will be located at DYL Fashions for the evening. We are extremely thankful for DYL, as they donate a portion of monthly proceeds from their bargain basement towards supporting MHWSS programs and services. - Annual Christmas Market at Parkside School

Join us at this annual Christmas Market, as Redcliff also hosts its annual Tree Lighting Celebration and Midnight Madness. Make buttons with us, and support us by purchasing MHWSS toques and tote bags. - Story time at the Medicine Hat Public Library.
Saturday, November 30th, 2-4PM

Many local schools and organizations will be putting up purple ribbons to raise awareness about Family Violence Prevention Month – so keep an eye out for these!
What Else Can I Do?
- Wear Purple! Organize a “Wear Purple” day at your workplace to help raise awareness about FVPM!
- Connect and share with us on Social Media!
- Plan your own FVPM event – and reach out to us so we can share it with the community!
- Support MHWSS – whether it’s collecting items we’re in need of, or supporting our capital campaign, or volunteering there are many ways to support the work we do in our community. Learn more here!
